The U.K. Is Supporting It’s Sports Industry With A Bailout. Do You Think America Will Follow?

The U.K. government announced a $400 million “Winter Survival Package” to aid sports organizations in England due to the covid19 pandemic. The Relief package will be distributed across national governing bodies, leagues and clubs. Funding will be dispersed among 11 sports.

In America the big 4 leagues, NCAA Football and the UFC continue to operate, while smaller promotions and leagues who depend on live attendance and tickets sales are shut out and not allowed to host events in most states. Most of these leagues and MMA promotions are small businesses and like all other small business the pandemic has had a devastating effect on their profitability.

Will the U.S. follow the lead of the U.K. and help smaller sports leagues and promotions. Time will only tell. It would make sense to actually help the business that cannot operate in the green without live fan attendance and this should be taken in consideration when the new relief package gets hashed out. Regional MMA Promotions and Minor Leagues are in desperate need of help and are in danger of being forgotten when relief gets disbursed.
